Public Works Commission, Master Status and Southwest hiking...

I've been busy with several irons in the fire and no time to post. Recent happenings are the honor of being elected to the status of Master Signature Member of the prestigious juried organization Women Artists of the West - only the 17 women have reached this level in the last 46 years.

Another milestone that I reached is being awarded my first public works commission by the City of Greeley for their Uptown Trees project. I have included a sketch of the proposal as well as a short video of the scale model that I created to accompany the proposal. The work will stand 20' tall at the highest point and is scheduled to be installed in May of 2017. The mountain lion will be water-cut from 1/4' steel and the designs within the lion will be cut in negative to allow the viewer to see the Colorado sky through the art and will also reduce some wind drag on the surface to offset Northern Colorado's high winds. The top branch and lion will be secured onto a custom ball-bearing collar that will allow the work to rotate 360˚ with enough wind pressure and the hanging ribbons and stars, also from cut steel will slightly sway back and forth, provided added kinetic movement to the sculpture.

I have also been busy preparing "Bareback Bookworm" and "Do You Know Me Still?" bronzes for the Women Artists of the West Annual Show being held at the RS Hanna Gallery in Fredericksburg, TX in November.

Lastly, my husband and I finally got the truck and camper and drove down to Moab, UT to spend some time recharging our batteries by hiking gorgeous trails in Arches National Park, Canyonlands National Park and then southwestern Colorado to Mesa Verde National Park.
